Name: Big O
Genre: Science Fiction
Average Rating: -Weeaboo/Wapanese

A cataclysm of some sort has occurred, erasing the memories and most of the world as it was. One city, Paradigm City is all that's left.

Flash forward forty years. Humans have adapted, learned how to use technology, language, and things have pretty much returned to the way they once were.

But not all is as it seems.

One piece of technology, giant robots known as Megadeuses, have been discovered by several private parties. Roger Smith, top negotiator of Paradigm City and former military police officer, has found one of these giant robots in his own hands. This Megadeus has come to be known as Big O. When Roger's negotiating skills aren't up to the job-- and lately they haven't been-- he calls on Big O to get the job done.

2008 called; it said this "review" (I utilize the preceding word with exaggerated coughing in my voice) was from when I was stupid. Read at your own risk.

I love Big O. It's one of my favorite Jap 'toons* of all time.

The first season is a little too serious and... I don't know, it just wasn't all that great, but it was still cool. But then season two came and everything changed.

To tell the truth, I'd give season one a... seven. But with season two, the plot got deeper and more intriguing all of a sudden. Not to mention Big Duo comes back and Big Fau is introduced. :D

Usually I'm not one for humanoid mecha, but the Megadeuses of Big O are very original and far more realistic than most mecha anime, although they still have individually controllable fingers and slag like that. Okay, not individual, but you get my drift.

Although the characters are somewhat generic, (Roger being the calm and collected hero, Dorothy being the emotionless android, Alex being the evil corporation owner, Alan being the sadistic killer, etc. etc.) the plot more than makes up for it. The dialogue is rather well-written, and the giant robot fights (which seem to be ever more scarce as the show progresses) are cool to watch.

The art style is rather strange, but fits the atmosphere. Lots of jagged stuff. Chances are it'll remind you of Batman the Animated Series, if you've ever seen that, it even has lots of gray, drab stuff. The animation is... jerky, but it's what I've come to expect from anime. But it's probably the first anime I've ever seen where people could actually make the "oo" sound with their mouths. Amazing!

Big O is just really cool, and that's all there is to it.
