Want a generic, hack-and-slash action game? Play
Vexx. Not to say that it's boring, there's just more there to be
desired.
The gameplay is pretty fun. I mean, it's an action
game. The combos you can perform keep things from getting
repetitive... It's always fun to jump up above this little alien guy's
head and shoot a big fireball down at him.
Basically, it's a ripoff of Super Mario 64 with
better graphics and more fighting skills. To collect hearts, (the
equivalent of Mario 64's stars) you have to do many things that are
almost exactly like the tasks you perform to get the eight stars from
each level in Mario 64. For example, collect 100 coins-- get a heart.
Defeat a boss-- get a heart. Collect 4 skulls-- get a heart.
It's kind of gross, the hearts actually look like hearts... Y'know,
the organ in your chest, but that's beside the point.
Gathering hearts unlocks new areas.... just like
Mario 64. But what's unlike Mario 64 is the camera-- The
camera brought the score from a could-be seven to a five. When the
camera gets in a bad spot, you can't move it. It gets stuck and you
can't move it. And there are many things for it to get stuck on.
It gets really frustrating... But when it's not getting stuck, it's
easy to move around wherever you want it.
Speaking of control... The controls are super
simple. You run with the stick, you jump with one button, you attack
with one button, and there's one button to press for doing combos, you
use the other stick to move the camera. That's it.
Vexx is fun. It's just like Mario 64, except the
camera can make it unplayable... It's just horrible. |
